Content Licensing

Our main business area is licensing the database or "electronic guidebook" to publishers (online and paper) and other businesses.

The database contains up to 500 statistical facts from each ski area.   These stats can be used for searches, ranking and rating resorts of many criteria and a combination of criteria.   The stats can generally be displayed in multiple languages (as they are mostly numbers/names), simply by changing the field headers.

The database also contains 2-3000 word reviews of each of the world's top 250 ski areas.   These reviews are divided into 11 sections of, typically 100 - 300 words each.   The 11 sections are Resort Overview, The Mountain, Snowboarding, Apres Ski, Dining Out, Facilities, Shopping, Families, Accommodation, Getting There, Summer.

They are designed for display along with stats and an image on a computer screen or printed page.   For example the snowboarding review can be displayed with snowboarding specific stats and a relevant picture.    This content alone exceeds anything currently offered by any dedicated snowboarding publication.

The database has an associated images database with over 5,000 pictures from the top 1,000 ski areas.    This image library contains trail maps, resort street maps, resort location maps and logos where available.

As the content has been primarily designed for the computer era rather than for books the stats can be used for complex searches.   A simple example would be for a family to search for a snowsure European ski area with runs above 2500m, within 100km of piste and at least 10 black runs to keep the experts in the family happy, located within 100km of Geneva airport,   an indoor swimming pool, tubing park and available daycare for five-month old Spanish speaking niece Bonjela.   Only the Snow24 database could come up with recommended resorts!    

Content delivery is fully flexible and clients may license as much or as little as they like, with updates as regularly as required (we are updating 365 days a year)

Over the years content has been licensed by AOL, BBC, Compuserve, Microsoft   and others.

In 2005 a runtime database was launched which enables copies of the database (or any part of it) to be provided on CD or other digital media.

News Feed

Since 1998 Snow24 has provided a weekly news feed service by email, both directly to private subscribers and for newspapers, magazines and websites to use to fill their pages.   The news story archive contains more than 3,000 stories, is searchable and is linked to the main database.

Photo Library

Snow24 provides access to over 5000 quality images.   We hold images from over 1000 ski areas and many are cross referenced in to genre categories so that, for example, every type of lift can be located

Eco Database

In 2005 Snow24 launched a new database in conjunction with the Ski Club of Great Britain which seeks to provide clear and comparable information on the environmental efforts made by each ski resort around the world.    The database is designed to try to provide answers to travel   customers who are frequently told to   look at what their destination resort is doing to minimise environmental impact, but finds it nigh on impossible to find such information.

Ticket Pricing

Snow24 compiles ticket pricing from over 500 ski areas every Summer and Autumn.    This can again be provided as part of the database but some clients buy it as a separate resort.

Marketing

Snow24 undertakes limited marketing work where it does not conflict with our impartiality.   This includes contacting ski areas to advise them of products and services and media campaigns to promote products.

Cartographic Work

The digital and numerical nature of the Snow24 database combined with our long established experience and expertise means that we have been used for a wide variety of cartographic applications.   This includes providing locations of ski resorts for CD based digital atlases, traditional road atlases and specialised travel industry atlases.   Snow24 also worked on pioneering in-car navigation systems in the late 1990s.
