Snow24 have completed a year long task of updating images for the world's
top 300 ski resorts.
The new 10GB photo library contains some 3,000 images, most of them 1 - 10MB
file size, 300 dpi print quality images.
For each resort the company has compiled a selection of six quality images,
a piste/trail map, a street/base map, a location map showing where the
resort is and the resort's logo.
The image library is supported by a searchable database showing image
information as well as photographer, supplier and copyright information.
A subset of the database has images sorted thematically so that quality
images are available on hundreds of different aspects of winter sports; for
example dozens of different lift types or more than 100 different activities
offered by ski resorts around the world.
In addition to the new database Snow24 has two other digital libraries
compiled between 2000 and 2002. One contains low-rez images from the world's
top 300 resorts, another high-rez images from about 1000 ski resorts. Prior
to this digital library Snow24 also has extensive resources in the form of a
transparency archive compiled between 1985 and 2000 as well as a library of
video in VHS tape and DVD.
The images have all been supplied by the ski resorts for promotional
purposes and the copyright remains with the resort and/or the photographer.
They can be used free-of-charge to publicise the resort supplying the
images, for other purposes additional permissions/payment may be required.
Snow24 charges a small fee towards the cost of collecting/compiling and
maintaining the image library and supplying pictures.
A new low-rez image library is now being compiled.
